6 hours per day. Not to exceed 2:00pm
Pay: Class 6, starting at $18.18 per hour

POSITION PURPOSE
To support staff and students in a variety of educational capacities during DDSD Summer School Program and in preparation to pursue a career in education.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
This description covers the most significant essential and auxiliary duties performed by this position for illustration purposes, and does not include other work, which may be similar, related to, or a logical assignment for the position. Support summer school programming in a variety of capacities. Tasks will include:
- Committing to the full summer school schedule
- Assist in the supervision of students in the classroom
- Engaging in weekly GYO Summer Intern meetings with GYO Summer Intern Coordinator on site or virtually
- Fulfilling GYO Summer Intern duties & responsibilities as required
- Performing other duties, as assigned
Support certified teachers & classified staff in facilitating ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT morning programming for elementary, middle, or high school students. Tasks will include:
- Instructing students in groups or individually
- Assisting the teacher in monitoring the progress of students
- Providing input to the teacher on planning lessons and evaluating results
- Assisting in the supervision of students in the classroom
- Performing other tasks to assist the teacher, such as preparing teaching materials
- If you have bilingual skills, duties may include providing oral and/or written interpretation and translation for students and their families.
Plan & lead afternoon YOUTH DEVELOPMENT & EQUITABLE ACCESS activities for elementary, middle, and high school students in the form of hands-on, inquiry-based, project-based, and arts integrated learning to support students’ mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. Tasks will include:
- Lesson planning and implementation with support of cooperating teacher
- Instructing students in groups or individually
- Monitoring the progress of students
- Collaborating with cooperating teacher on planning lessons and evaluating results, preparing teaching materials
- Assist in the supervision of students in the classroom as well as other settings, such as the cafeteria
- If you have bilingual skills, duties may include providing oral and/or written interpretation and translation for students and their families.
Attend & complete weekly tasks & assignments for PCC Education Courses offered through Multnomah Educators Rising (MER) Summer Academy.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants must be David Douglas High School Graduates
- Completion of the GYO Summer Intern onboarding process in collaboration with MESD and DDSD
- Prior experience working with students
- Basic understanding of subjects and conditions in which GYO Summer Interns are to provide assistance
- Knowledge of classroom practices and procedures and school operations and personnel
- Ability to project a pleasant manner and relate well to students and their requests for assistance
- Flexibility and patience in supervising and instructing students with a variety of skill levels
- Ability to plan and organize materials for use in instruction
- Ability to work with others and to communicate appropriately and effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and staff
- Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior, which includes positive attendance record, and confidentiality of information about students and staff
- Bilingual preferred (the district’s top languages are Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Somali)
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Moderate degree of physical stamina, with frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50
pounds required in the physical assistance of students with special needs. Ability to move freely to various locations
within the classroom and other supervisory settings (cafeteria/playground). Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and
bending. Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
