JOB TITLE: Teacher – Choir Director
Reports To: Building Principal
Job Purpose Statement/s: The Teacher–Choir Director provides instruction in vocal music to help students develop strong individual and ensemble performance skills, as well as a deep understanding and appreciation of music. This position supports student success by selecting and implementing high quality literature, creating effective lesson plans, and documenting instruction, progress, and outcomes. The Choir Director models high-quality musicianship and instructional practices, maintains a safe and supportive learning environment, and communicates regularly with students, families, and administration regarding progress, expectations, and goals.
Essential Job Functions:
- Teach students to sing with well-formed vowels and a clear, free, focused, in-tune sound.
- Conduct rehearsals and performances__demonstrating understanding of differences in style among various types of
- Present performances of high musical quality for the school and community in which groups are well-disciplined and make a good
- Use music of high quality in a variety of types and
- Build and maintain a program that attracts and holds at least enough students to perform the standard literature at the assigned level with a characteristic ensemble sound and balance of
- Identify, diagnose, and prescribe remediation for problems in individual and group vocal
- Match activities and materials to individual and group skills and
- Design or select and use planned sequences of instruction so that students acquire skills in vocal technique and music
- Establish and maintain an orderly and supportive classroom environment in which students are actively respectively and actively Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning environment.
- Maximize time when students are paying attention and working on tasks directly related to the subject matter (organizing a good rehearsal) by conducting an interesting and well-paced class using a variety of instructional
- Give clear directions and ensure students understand the required tasks/assignment to
- Assess, keep track of, and provide feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and
- Use a grading system that is fair and
- Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom

- Select and requisition required music, equipment, and supplies and goes through the proper channels to use their
- Ensure that music and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored, and that inventory records are current and
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities as
- Participate cooperatively on school, area, and district-wide
- Establish and maintain a good working relationship with building administrators and staff__cooperating to resolve problems in a professional manner so that concerns of all parties are
- Demonstrate a professional and positive attitude when carrying out responsibilities as a faculty
- Organize best use of time with your accompanist and ensure communication during literature
- Follow specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and
- Plan and implement a program of study following state and district outcomes that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs and abilities of the
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to
- Become familiar with and uphold the enforcement of school rules, Administrative Regulations and Board
- Attend staff meetings as well as serve on staff and district committees as
- Meet the state standards for competent and ethical
Other Job Functions:
- Minimum of 4 home performances & a minimum of 2 off-campus
- Participate in various meetings (e.g. conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing
- Attend all league events and contests, OSAA contests (if selected), and is encouraged to support and prepare students as the vocal director for the annual
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements – Qualifications:
Experience Preferred: Prior job related experience.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Working knowledge of the voice at the assigned level.
Conduct music accurately and expressively with self-confidence.
Sing unselfconsciously to illustrate and to demonstrate correct techniques, corrective measures, and musical expressiveness.
Strong personal musicianship.
Skills in planning, developing, and implementing appropriate curriculum and assisting students in realizing success. Effective communication skills with students, parents and other school personnel.
Knowledge of instructional theory and best practices, curriculum, state education code, state standards and district policies. Proficiency in lyric diction of English, Latin, Italian and German at a minimum.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks; maintain accurate records; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school personnel; and meet schedules and deadlines. Significant physical demands include lifting, carrying, reaching, and handling; speaking and hearing conversations; and near and far visual acuity, depth perception, accommodation, and field of vision.
Attendance:
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality in meeting work responsibilities, schedules, meetings, and deadlines.
Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree. Music endorsement required.
Licenses, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Appropriate Teacher Standards and Practices Commission license, Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance, and valid driver's license and evidence of insurability.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year according to the current contract and school calendar. *Extra duty stipends are attached to this position.
