MUSICAL CHOREOGRAPHER
Schedule: Seasonal; Fall and Spring
Class: 9, starts at $19.30 per hour
Starting Date: As soon as possible
POSITION PURPOSE
The Musical Choreographer creates original dance movements and routines for performances and productions. Musical Choreographer reports to the Musical Director.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct rehearsals to instruct dancers in how to use dance steps, and in techniques to achieve desired effects.
- Experiment with different types of dancers, steps, dances, and placements, testing ideas informally and assess skills of dancers.
- Read and study script and music to determine how to translate ideas and moods into dance movements.
- Develop Choreography for musical numbers.
- Record dance movements and their technical aspects, using a technical understanding of the patterns and formations of choreography.
- Advise dancers on how to stand and move properly, teaching correct dance techniques to help prevent injuries.
- Assist musical director in Auditioning performers
- Run rehearsal independently / supervise students
- Provide constructive feedback to students to improve their performances through rehearsal and dress rehearsal.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have 2 years of college, or hold an Associate Degree or complete the district paraprofessional training.
- Knowledge of rehearsal practices and procedures and school operations and personnel.
- Ability to plan and organize materials for use in instruction.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of dance steps, styles and routines.
- Ability to follow and collaborate.
- Ability to project a pleasant manner and relate well to students and their requests for assistance.
- Flexibility and patience in supervising and instructing students with a variety of skill levels.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate appropriately and effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents and staff
- Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Moderate degree of physical stamina, with frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to move freely to various locations within the classroom and or other supervisory settings.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking and bending.
- Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting

David Douglas School District Drug Testing and Criminal Background check
Per district policy all offers of employment shall be contingent upon the successful passing of a district required drug test and criminal background check.
